Selama ini hidup kita dipenuhi oleh rasa resah dan gelisah. Bahkan kecenderungan kita untuk stress begitu besar. Apa yang menyebabkan semua ini ?. Karena kita memiliki kecenderungan memfokuskan diri dan pikiran kita pada ‘apa yang kita inginkan’ dan bukan pada ‘apa yang kita miliki’. Tak peduli seberapa banyak yang sudah kita miliki, kita selalu memperpanjang daftar keinginan kita. Jika pun kita telah memperoleh apa yang kita inginkan, hal tersebut tidak menjamin kita akan bahagia. Diri kita, pikiran kita sering mengatakan “Aku akan bahagia jika keinginanku yang satu ini dapat kuraih” dan ini adalah pikiran kita yang akan selalu terulang kembali jika keinginan kita tersebut sudah terpenuhi.

Kebanyakan dari kita melakukan hal yang sama. Kita selalu ingin ini, ingin itu dan jika kita tak dapat memenuhi keinginan ini itu kita akan resah dan gelisah bahkan kecewa. Tetapi jika sudah kita dapatkan apa yang kita inginkan, kita hanya akan menciptakan keinginan baru, akan menginginkan ini itu yang lainnya. Jadi kita akan tetap tidak bahagia walaupun keinginan kita sudah kita peroleh. Kebahagiaan tidak akan pernah kita peroleh jika kita selalu menginginkan sesuatu yang belum kita miliki.

Sebenarnya ada cara yang mudah untuk menghilangkan rasa resah gelisah dan gundah gulana untuk memperoleh kebahagiaan. Kita tinggal mengubah orientasi pikiran kita dari “apa yang kita inginkan” menjadi “apa yang kita miliki”. Dari pada memikirkan dan mengharapkan sesuatu yang istimewa dari pasangan kita, lebih baik kita memikirkan dan berterimakasih dengan sifat-sifat baik yang dimiliki pasangan kita.

Daripada kita memikirkan bagaimana bisa berlibur ke Hongkong, lebih baik kita pikirkan betapa nyaman dan tentram tinggal bersama keluarga di rumah. Daftar kemungkinan ini tak akan ada habisnya. Dan setiap kali kita terjebak oleh pikiran “Aku berharap hidup ini akan lain”, sebaiknya kita mundur sejenak dan kembali ke awal. Tarik nafas panjang-panjang , dan ingat-ingat apa saja yang sudah kita miliki yang patut kita syukuri. Bila kita tidak terpaku pada apa yang kita inginkan, tetapi kita dapat menginginkan apa yang telah kita miliki, maka pada akhirnya kita akan memperoleh lebih dari pada yang kita inginkan.

Bila kita bersyukur akan pekerjaan yang sudah kita miliki dan bukan mengeluhkannya, maka kita akan bekerja lebih baik dan lebih produktif. Bila kita lebih memusatkan pada segala kebaikan yang dimiliki oleh pasangan kita maka itu akan lebih membahagiakan hubungan kita. Dari pada kita habiskan waktu dan tenaga untuk memikirkan bagaimana caranya kita bisa berlibur ke Hongkong, lebih baik kita berusaha bagaimana menyenangkan diri kita sendiri berada di rumah bersama keluarga.

Kita akhirnya akan memperoleh waktu yang banyak untuk bahagia bersama keluarga di rumah. Bila pada akhirnya kita benar-benar dapat berlibur ke Hongkong kita akan merasa lebih bahagia. Tetapi jika karena satu dan lain hal kita tidak bisa berlibur ke Hongkong, hidup kita akan tetap bahagia.

Mari kita buat catatan kecil apa saja yang sudah kita miliki yang wajib kita syukuri. Mulailah kita memikirkan apa yang sudah kita miliki. Mari kita sadari bahwa kita benar-benar menginginkan apa yang sudah kita miliki. Jika ini kita lakukan, yakinlah bahwa hidup kita akan lebih baik dari sebelumnya. Karena mungkin untuk petama kalinya kita bisa merasakan apa arti kepuasan batin dan kebahagiaan.
