Kapal Tenggelam di Selat Malaka, 13 TKI Diduga Jadi Korban

Celahkotanews.com || KL – Sebuah perahu yang mengangkut sekitar seratus orang yang diduga warga Indonesia tenggelam di Selat Malaka. Peristiwa itu menewaskan setidaknya 13 orang.

Seperti dilansir Channel News Asia pada 3 September 2015, perahu tersebut tenggelam di perairan berombak ganas di lepas pantai barat Malaysia dekat Sauh Cape, kota pesisir Sabak Bernam di Negara Bagian Selangor. Para penumpang kemungkinan tenaga kerja asal Indonesia.

“Nelayan setempat telah menyelamatkan 13 orang dan telah menemukan 13 mayat,” kata Mohamad Aliyas Hamdan dari Badan Penegakan Maritim Malaysia.

Hamdan menjelaskan, berdasarkan ukurannya, perahu tersebut dapat membawa sekitar 70 orang, tapi nelayan setempat menyatakan penumpang bisa mencapai seratus orang.

“Kami telah mengerahkan 12 kapal dan pesawat beserta sekitar 200 petugas untuk melakukan operasi pencarian serta penyelamatan,” ujar Hamdan.

Pihak berwenang belum memeriksa para korban untuk mengkonfirmasi kewarganegaraan mereka. Jenazah akan dibawa ke rumah sakit umum Teluk Intan di Negara Bagian Perak.

“Kami belum tahu apakah imigran tersebut sedang berusaha untuk mendarat di Malaysia ataukah mencoba meninggalkan Malaysia secara ilegal,” ucap Hamdan, sambil menggambarkan tenggelamnya kapal tersebut sebagai tragedi perahu yang terburuk sepanjang tahun ini.

Banyak warga Indonesia bekerja secara ilegal di perkebunan dan industri lain di Malaysia. Mereka sering melakukan perjalanan berbahaya dengan menyeberangi Selat Malaka yang sempit menggunakan perahu yang tidak layak.(Dp)

  256. Another reminder how risky those overloaded boats are—13 dead and maybe a hundred packed into a vessel meant for 70. The authorities need stricter checks before letting these illegal trips happen.
